Thanks for the beautifully personalized reframing of Gilbert’s writing, Joanne. I’m glad to know my sharing this piece was helpful to your own process. It is to my own as well, and I suppose it spoke to me as strongly as it did because I recognize the truth in it. We are the acorn and the oak, and it’s necessary that we lean forward into the oak within us at times, maybe often! I don’t feel that necessitates not also making space for the scared and lost parts of ourselves, but perhaps the oak parts can hold steady for the acorn as it moves through its many stages of growth and development.
