Welcome to MAMPS Audrey
Look forward to meeting you online -will be interesting to hear how you are integrating acupuncture into your practice. The maternity system is different here in NZ but it was the feedback from midwives that gave me the confidence to start writing about using antenatal acupuncture – still an ongoing process and look forward to hearing about your perspectives.

InstructorDecember 8, 2023 at 2:23 pm in reply to: Pre-induction treatment for Mom with breast cancerHi Abby – I am assuming this is her first baby – if so would recommend getting her to do the acupressure SP 6 – to LIV 5 (Claudia’s Liver gummies) from 36 weeks three times a week for 5 mins for the cervical ripening – as per the acupressure preparation on the sheets on my website – with other acupressure points as you think work with her underlying TCM diagnosis…

Hi Jamie
Have never seen a reason to stay away from them – when I asked why they would be a problem the only answer I have ever had was that it was something one of their teachers had said but no rationale .. cupping over the spinal vertebrae – is also something I see as invigorating the HTJJ points once again with the idea of improving local blood flow to the vertebra. Adding the slide I like to valise the blood flow to vertebra – hope that helps Debra

As for the timing – its why I try and get the both toes stimulated at the same time – so 20 mins in total – hence again the moxa holders so they can just move there toe away from the moxa when it becomes uncomfortably hot!

InstructorAugust 14, 2023 at 12:20 pm in reply to: Module 3B- Breech and Moxa QuestionsHi Danielle
Great questions – I leave some of the practical clinic management to the others as also want to hear about their experiences but just a quick reply to the effectiveness or not of smokeless moxa – there was a small study that compared traditional to smokeless and although more babies turned Cephalic at the end of the intervention for Smokeless it was not reach statically significance, attached and in the community power point lecture from beginning of the year with Sarah and Susan
Also, just a note I try and get the time to be 20 mins each toe – hence the try out the home made moxa holders so that it becomes feasible if no one to help them – look forward to hearing what others have found useful!

Follwoing with interest – this is a great summary and useful tips – I would also add the smell aspect – not sure if thats Pattern based – any thoughts Sarah or Clauida ? Just found that for some smells set of the neasea and vomitting – helpful to use prue clean smells like lemon – can have in water in a slow coooker in the kitchen with lid off ( to spread through the room) or as whole fruit wraped up in a hanky – with holes pre poked – so that when they enter the supermarket etc they can squeeze and release a fresh smell …..look forward to others tips 🙂

Hi Emma
First can I ask if you had treatment for yourself in your first pregnancy or the monitoring was a “watch and wait”
Yes, that sudden onset is the worry and why it’s so important that anyone we are working with is having close monitoring.
My experience has only been with the cases that are in the pre admission to hospital – I’ll leave the more complex cases to Zena – with all her experience
But in the clinic treating both high BP and preeclampsia with what you see and a baseline of ST 36, LIV 3 and LI 11 – High BP may turn into preeclampsia but may not – but in both cases monitoring is occurring so can see if your treatment is effective….
My experience has been treating people in clinic that are of concern and being monitored – and not going on to be under specialist medical care. It was the midwives talking about this and they wrote about it in a document at the back of the book where they talked acupuncture treatment normalizing previous high liver enzymes as well as the BP. So when I saw these cases there were some symptoms of concern – not sure about treatment preventively in a subsequent pregnancy but all for regular health maintenance self treatment 😊
I have no information about pre conception care sorry …and If I was discussing Sharon’s work it would be about her wonderful “crappy blood” description – I have no experience with herbs …
