    Hi Lorianne,

I am still getting an alert at the top of my page saying I am no longer able to access this mentorship. It will also not let me pay to renew. I do think I have an old CC on file with you so I am thinking I need to change that. Can you contact me directly so I can fix this? I would like to continue my MAMPS mentorship.

    Thank you!

    Hi Lorianne,

I just went on to my subscription for MAMPS and its not letting me renew – I also see that perhaps I am missing some payments…? My card was stolen back in September so that might be part of the issue here. Feel free to contact me personally to discuss if you would like lwilson.lac@gmail.com

    Thanks so much!

I find that sometimes nausea can be heat related, regardless of the position. Maybe make sure the room is cool enough for them and only a light sheet or blanket to cover them? Maybe that will help?

    Hi Danielle,

I have treated both CTS and De Quervain’s successfully using Dr. Tan’s Balance Method – you just have to get really specific with where the pain is located in the wrist and image that on the opposite ankle (sometimes both ankles get needled as I do stick to the yin/yang theory – meaning one ankle is yang points and the other is yin). I do have the patient move their wrist around as I needle as the location of the pain often changes as you treat. You do need to see them frequently until you can get on top of it – frequently being at least 1x/wk – in my nursing mama’s with De Quervain’s sometimes that means 2x/wk. Wrist braces help as well with both these conditions, for some reason especially at night. I also suggest topical arnica cream – freq applications – to help with the swelling and pain. I place magnets to go on the points that were most helpful along the ankles, usually these stay on for a few days which also helps. Remember, be specific when asking about the pain, get detailed, find the partner meridian and image on the opposite foot – you got this, it just takes practice 🙂

    Hi Jennifer,

I have had a handful of patients with Factor V Leiden. Normally here in San Diego CA – my patients are put on Lovenox which is much stronger than baby aspirin. I have always treated these patients based on their pattern in addition to any “branch” symptoms they may be experiencing – i.e. pain conditions, constipation, insomnia, etc., which can be more pregnancy related than pattern related. Acupuncture has always been really great for them! The only thing to be aware of is that they can bruise more easily on blood thinners, so watch for this. I apply pressure and Arnica cream locally to any points that appear to be bruising. I would also avoid cupping and gua sha, as those modalities would leave more discoloration and potentially unsightly broken blood vessels due to the blood thinner.

    Hope that helps 🙂

October 23, 2021 at 4:03 pm in reply to: Pregnancy with very large fibroid

    Hi Ciara,

I have had a handful of cases with fibroids during pregnancy. Most often these patients seek me out because they are experiencing discomfort and pain as their pregnancy progresses. Most all of have been fundal and as you know continue to grow with the pregnancy.

As mentioned previously, I tend to stay clear of herbs during pregnancy for the most part and with the size of these fibroids, this patient would need to be taking herbs for a prolonged period of time which I am not comfortable prescribing. So, I treat with weekly acupuncture and adjust diet to limit phlegm forming foods/support the spleen to lessen phlegm/damp production. What I have found to be the most beneficial clinically in this instance is using Balance Method to help alleviate px and then additional points to address the overall pattern always keeping with the Balance theory. Do you know Balance Method? Using this method, I have found that the patients discomfort is immediately abated, which is what brought them in so they are happy. As we work together, the fibroids will stop growing as long as they are also following the dietary suggestions. If they don’t follow the dietary suggestions, the fibroids slow but may still continue to grow.

I have had patients with multiple fibroids but not the sizes your patient is presenting with. I can only imagine how uncomfortable and fatiguing these fibroids are for her. Using herbs in this situation I do believe would help them shrink, I just don’t have the knowledge and experience with this. Perhaps someday I will take classes with Sharon 🙂

I am no expert in Balance Method, but if you would like to brainstorm an acupuncture treatment together just let me know. Works like a charm to help alleviate pain and allows them to progress in their pregnancy a little more comfortably.

    Hi Sarah,

I am happy to hear your patients partner is feeling better! Such a hard situation when a loved one is sick, of course she wants to care for him especially when it was beginning to turn in a direction we don’t want. And it is challenging when others are not taking COVID seriously – if anyone has suggestions on that conversation I would love to hear it! Mask wearing conversations here are a slippery slope…

I feel fortunate to have not had any pregnant patient get COVID as of yet, but I have been proactively preventing if they have either had exposure via contact tracing or a member of their household has tested positive. As soon they find out, I suggest they begin taking Mycoshield by Host Defense – this is a blend of mushrooms that have antiviral properties (I lean heavily on food as medicine during pregnancy – this is a place I feel comfortable as herbs here in CA are frequently blamed if their is an adverse reaction). I have had several pregnant patients that are Dr’s and nurses on the front lines of COVID taking this as a preventative and (knock on wood) none of them have contracted COVID. I suggest taking the full dose on the bottle and continue until either their quarantine period is over or each day they may be exposed – being conscious to take days off between when there is no potential exposure (for my teachers, Dr’s, nurses, etc). I find it also helps them feel less vulnerable/scared having something to proactively take that both prevents and treats viruses. I also suggest the daily usual to keep their immune system harmonized and healthy – prenatal, vitamin D, probiotic. For prevention we may add zinc lozenges 1-2/day or vitamin C – all within appropriate pregnancy dosages and as above when their is potential exposure.

Thank you Diana for sharing, super interesting case and love that you used herbs! I appreciate hearing your experience. I too had a pregnant friend reach out to me last December that I helped care for from afar – I believe she was around 28 weeks at the time. I actually put her on Oscillococcinum for 48 hrs (I lean on homeopathy in my pregnant patients and for pediatrics), both Mycoshield and Garlic Force by New Chapter for 21 days (my non-pregnant patients I have continue for 30 days). The Garlic Force is STRONG – so I only suggest taking 1 pill/day during pregnancy (my non-pregnant patients take it 2x/day). I love Garlic for the reason you mentioned – that is makes the blood less sticky (and it fits my food is medicine during pregnancy). I also love it because it is both a natural antiviral and antibiotic, which covers a lot of ground for us. The biggest kicker is that it is an anti-inflammatory and prevents Cytokine Storm – we know that is the biggest factor as to why people go sideways after contracting COVID. I kept her on this regimen to make sure we made it past that 10-15 day window of when we most often see the inflammatory situation take over. I too do lots of hand holding during COVID, check in everyday, help to keep their spirits up and remind them that they are capable of getting through this illness. The mental emotional toll is BIG during both when a patient has contracted COVID and/or during a quarantine period when the patient is in the unknown – it can be so scary for them. This is where we can really help, most of their other practitioners are hands off and often times don’t have the personal connection that we have with our patients. I love all the suggestions you gave your friend, thank you for sharing – I have made notes 🙂

I have now treated about 3 dozen cases of COVID in my non-pregnant patients. Some I have given herbs, but most just follow the protocol above and move through with relative ease knowing that they are going to feel sick (if it has been more than 48hr since beginning of symptoms – I omit the Oscillo, this should be taken immediately when able). The patients that didn’t reach out to me when they were notified of a positive status or with initial symptoms have had trouble. I only have a handful of what would now be considered long COVID – most were last summer when we didn’t know much. They all present differently which is fascinating! I can totally nerd out here with our medicine and how spot on we are to be treating these patients that are falling through the cracks in the western medicine capacity as our medicine has a longer history and has seen these patterns before. Thank goodness the practitioners before us were such amazing historians/teachers! Feel so lucky and thankful to be practicing our medicine right now 💗 Oh, and once my patients are out of their quarantine period I do have them come in for treatments – so much we can do with acupuncture!

Good luck with your patient Sarah! Please keep us posted on how she and her partner are fairing. Sounds like she is in good capable hands with you!

    Hi Stephanie,

Sorry to hear you have been sick. I’m sure the group will get into tongue and pulse diagnosis with you so we can all understand your pattern a little more – it would be lovely if you could post a picture of your tongue as this was a big topic of discussion yesterday and one I think we all have deep interest in.

Meanwhile, two of the general remedies I have been suggesting to help prevent COVID from going sideways is Garlic Force by New Chapter 1 pill 2x/day and MycoShield by Host Defense – taken as rx on the bottle. Garlic Force is super strength – literally, each pill is approx 2 bulbs (not cloves) of Garlic and as you may know Garlic inhibits cytokine storm. MycoShield is a blend of mushrooms that have shown to have antiviral properties. Since both of these items are foods I feel comfortable recommending them, for herbs I would like more information.

My family and I appear to have had COVID in Feb 2019, before we knew it was in the US and there wasn’t any testing of yet. My illness began with trouble breathing that lasted for approx 24 hours prior to a fever, once the fever began I could breath easier, shortly thereafter I began a cough that last about 4 weeks and intense fatigue that lasted 3+ weeks. The other members of my family didn’t get the shortness of breath, only me. I of course was managing all my symptoms with the arsenal of herbs and vitamins I have here at home, but I really think it was the Garlic Force that kept me from going sideways especially with all that we know now.

With my patients I suggest staying on both of these remedies until they reach the 30 day marker from onset of illness.

Let me know if you have questions or if anything needs clarification.

    Hope you feel better!!

    Hi!

My account shows that my credit card is no longer valid. I have tried to update the card, but not sure if it uploaded. My account is showing it hasn’t been charged since September and I would like to continue to be part of MAMPS. I currently do have access to everything, just want to keep my subscription going along with make sure I am up on all payments. Can you help with this?

    Thanks Lorianne!

    Hi!

I seem to not have my notifications set up properly and am just seeing your reply today. One of the ways I get specific with which meridian/area is in pain – I have the patient use 1 finger to point to wear the pain is. Sometimes this is hard for them to find as “it all hurts”. I have them move around the joint/painful place in question and use one finger from the other hand to show the area in which the pain encompasses. Even if it is a wide area they point to or encircle, you will be able to see which channels within that area are affected. As you treat, the affected area will become smaller and more precise – the patient is always amazed by this and really it is quite like magic. Soon they will be able to pinpoint exactly where the pain is originating from. It just takes practice in asking them to get specific using one finger. Balance Method really works for any type of pain, so try it on any/all pain conditions that walks in your door. Works like a charm!

    Best of luck,

    Lori
