I have done a couple of talks on the topic at mums groups, so all in the postpartum stage who bring their babies along, so I try to make it short and interactive. I explain that postpartum from Chinese Medicine, after the baby is born, which is pure Yang in nature, leaves your body in a cold/empty state, therefore vulnerable to changes of weather so it is important to keep yourselves warm, and your belly warm.

I may give some written advice (as mentioned on previous comments):

    • Use a heat pack or a hot water bottle daily for 15-20 mins, wrapped in a towel, enough to warm your skin, without promoting sweating. Please don’t burn yourself. Wear your favourite socks. Warm feet = Warm uterus
    • Warming Foods and Fluids. Warm stews and soups are great, after birth there is a loss of blood and if you are breastfeeding there is a high demand for calories and fluids, so time to replenish and nourish! Chinese Chicken soup is a delicious Blood building dish, please check recipe bellow.
    • Ingredients: 40 – 50 g fresh ginger, cut into thin slices
    • 500 g chicken, with skin and bone, cut in pieces (2-3 cm)
    • 30 g Chinese rice wine (Shaoxing Hua Tiao)
    • 20 g light soy sauce
    • 2 tsp wolfberries (goji), rinsed
    • 5 slices dang gui (Chinese angelica root)
    • ¼ tsp sesame oil, dark (roasted)
    • 1 tsp salt, adjust to taste
    • 10 Chinese red dates, pitted
    • 800 g water
    • Method: Soak and rise the Dan Gui, Chinese red dates and goji berries, and put aside. Rinse the chicken and place in a medium pot, and add enough water to cover the chicken, around 800 gr. Bring to a boil, uncovered, over medium-high heat. Oncee boiling add ginger and reduce the heat to medium, cover and cook for 45 minutes. Season with light soy sauce and add the Chinese red wine, add the Chinese red dates and Dan gui, and simmer for 1 hour. 10 minutes before the time add the goji berries. Season with salt to taste and add sesame oil.

-Great time to pop in the clinic and receive some Gentle moxibustion.

I once did a sweet congee that I brought for them to try made with rice, oat milk, chinese red dates, cinnamon and some cocoa, which they loved.

    She is 32yo.

Had a miscarriage in july 2021 at 6w, lost dad and a good friend within 3 months. So i think that advice the advice from her GP frightened her. I told her to seek a second opinion, but she is happy to stop trying for 3 months a take some pressure off. The location of the fibroids were at intramural wall and submucosal.

Suffered bullying at work and seeing a psychiatrist. Not working now, looking after her body. Cycles are 28-32 days, but hS been spotting brown the past 3 months from around day 20 till day of period.

Last cycle got Covid And past a large clot during period, normally no clots and no pain, some breast tenderness. I have been working on moving liver Qi and supporting spleen with the phases. Gave her gui pi tang. She is 32yo.

I dont have a background in writing either, and I was thinking about my clients and inspired by the topic of success on labor prep i would like to conduct an ongoing survey on my previous and current clients.

    Questions:

    Edd and labour date

    Duration and progression

    Type of birth

    Outcomes for mother and baby

    Complications

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thank you both for answering my question. I have used moxa on my client this week and gave her some to use at home. I will let you know how she goes.

She wants to attempt a VBAC AFTER 2 c-sections, any positive experiences anyone would like to share?

I don’t have experience with clients. But as a breastfeeding mama the mechanism would be similar to the silicone pumps such as haaka.

A midwife taught me in case of blockages to lay on my back and press

/massage gently with flat fingers on the areas of blockages, then incorporate myself and the sudden change of position and has helped me and other clients relieve them. Not sure if you picture what im saying

Hi, not sure why either. But I do pregnancy massages and have those pillows, and I have cases of pregnant people feeling well for weeks and then at some point in their pregnancy feel nauseated or faint.

But also I had people who will feel faint if they were not seated right up, so I think it depends of the person.

I keep using the pillows, and some people just love to be able to lay in their tummy again.

    Hi Sarah,

I actually didn’t even think about toddlers or animals picking them up, so thanks for the heads up. Could I Have a copy of your handout too?

    Thanks

This is so great, this may be a silly question but do you bring a treatment table with you?

I used to do mobile massage back in the day and I couldn’t handle transporting the equipment. I would love to offer more postpartum care, but I wonder what expectations people have 🙂
