Ok then. Let me begin by saying that yes I have treated patients like this and it is pretty tricky. Not the ghosts, they are not tricky. It’s the ethics of the situation that are tricky. So, let’s start with that first then we can discuss treatment options.

First and foremost you really need to be clear on what that patient wants from you and whether or not you can provide it. “What is it that you would like me to help you with and what are your expectations for treatment?”

Second you need to know if they are still on medication and if they are in the care of a psychiatrist. I usually frame that as “What are you taking or doing right now to help yourself?” This can always be framed as necessary information for you to determine the appropriate diagnosis and also what you need to do so you do not interfere with other treatment. With her history, you really should not be the person solely responsible for her mental health.

Next, you will need to determine if she needs an advocate. Is her mental state lucid enough that she can give informed consent? Does she need someone else to be with her when she comes for treatment? You can frame this as the need to make sure she can get home safely after a treatment. As part of that, you will need to know what resources are available to her after treatment to helo her process.

It is important to find a way in your communication to make her feel safe without buying into the story. She needs to feel like you understand her perspective, you accept her version of the truth but not necessarily that you agree with it. When patients like this ask, “What do you think?” I find myself saying things like: I don’t really know. This is not my experience, it’s yours so I am just going to focus on finding the imbalances in your body and try to correct them. You might also say things like: I can see this is causing you great suffering or I can see how you would want this situation to change.

If after you get this information, you still feel like you want to try to help this patient then I would think about the following.

    1. A Gu treatment. I beleive the points for this are in your workbook but if not they are, in this order: St-43, LI-4, Ki-2, Sp-8, Ki-10 and SI-5. This could be an option for you if her tongue coat is greasy or her pusle is slippery.

    2. The first triad of the ghost points. This is the earliest stage of possession but it is useful when there are other voices. In order: Du-26, Lu-11 and Sp-1. Should you decide this is the appropriate treatment, then contact me first and I will tell you how to take care of yourself during the treatment.

    3. This history of premeable boundaries associated with empathy is an inconsolidated Dai Mai. So consolidating the Dai might help ground her and establish a sort of protective barrier against psychic influence.

    4. If there is any sense at all that she is “out of her body”, fragmented or disconnected, then you may need to begin with a Kidney Trauma Treatment: Ki-26, Ki-16 and Ki-6 bilaterally.

    5. You might also find after speaking with her that she can be better contain with a Ren Mai treatment or even a combo of Ren and Dai.

    6. Jeffrey has a treatment for Gu & Gui using the Yin Qiao: ´Moxa on Ki-2 & Ki-6

    Needle: Ki-11,
    St-12 & UB-1

Let me know if you need further clarity on any of these.

    Y xx

    Hi Ellen,

I think those thoughts are all valid. That’s why I prefaced that conversation with this is what I do, when it comes to kids. I think in general in the US, there is a tendency to try to “fix” kids. Of course, parents & medical professionals don’t really think of it in that way, they likely just want to help. So I try to err on the side of caution, knowing the power of these vessels. Children do not often come for acupuncture voluntarily and when they do they often do not understand the scope of treatment. They cannot legally give consent and they often do not understand what consent means. They can easily tell you if it is ok to needle them but they cannot easily give consent for the mobilization of Jing.

But also, recognizing that when you open these vessels they are continuing to work for days, weeks and months after opening and are often affected by the environment in which they are opening. This means that you can open these vessels in children and then their caregivers will have some influence on how they unfold. I think it is probably rare and unusual to see children living in a state of empowerment that allows them to control their own destiny. If children are living with that state of autonomy and agency then there is still the lack of support of post-natal Qi to negotiate.

I recognize that this is my perspective and I would not want to lay that on you. As is true with everything I have offered, I hope you will ponder it seriously, take what you need and then make it your own. That’s why I am not that fond of protocols. I much prefer that you all dig down deep into your souls and offer the 8EV and any other treatment from the best version of who you are, to whomever you think will benefit from it.

It is important to me as a teacher to always point out the risks so that you can make informed choices and also to tell you about my mistakes so you can learn from them through me instead of experiencing them on your own. But ulitmately, I hope that I can empower you to do what is best for yourself and your patients from and informed and authentic place.

Thanks for thinking about this and opening the discussion.🙏

I don’t remember the conversation but it was probably Vetiver. Very grounding as is Frankincense.

I love that you are on the bus with me. It is a gift to know that I am not alone on the journey to become more human. I wasn’t sure this mentorship would work online but I am thrilled with the way it is going and I am so honored you chose to spend this time with me. xo

    Thank you Janneke,

Us Scots like to get our money’s worth too! 😉 As for review it over and over, that’s how it works. I did that with these vessels for years. It took along time to be able to do this without looking things up. Repetition gives the Spleen a chance to “bank” the information so that it makes sense. I’m grateful for your participation. 🙏

Glad to have the opportunity. I prefer to be optomistic but I have a feeling we are going to see more and more of this kind of imbalance in the coming years.

Glad it helps. By the way, you do not have to leave your body to leave your core. It’s really just another version of grounding. When we stay connected to our core (Chong), we can extend beyond our bodies out into the world and still be connected/ grounded in who we are.

Good question. I find that for me, it usually comes down to one of 2 things. Either I am not breathing or I am not grounded. Both of those things seems to happen when I am a little triggered by a person’s story.

If I reassert the breathing and grounding and I still cannot clear my intent then I get my hands on the patient’s body. Generally, for me creating a deeper connection with the patient will usually help me to create a clearer intent.

In the work that I do in the classroom/clinic with students the most common thing I see is that practioners leave their bodies instead of expanding from their core to make the connection. That may have something to do with the empathy. This profession seems to attract people with a ton of empathy and very often people do not know how to separate that empathy from enmeshment or co-dependency. Active/ conscious grounding seems to help that.

So sorry about your digestion. I totally understand that. Truth is, what I gave you in a few months probably should have been dished out over years, as it was for me. This whole Zoom education stuff has been a miracle in so many ways but also has some issues in terms of easy access. Hope your digestion settles and the food for thought benefits you.

    Hi Ellen,

I am thrilled by the idea that you and Janneke would connect over this teaching. I had hopes that the forum would provide an avenue for discussion but in person is even better. I was very lucky to have people to ponder with while I was first learning this information.

So glad you are finding the mentorship valuable. Let me know if you have any questions after viewing the Divergent class.

    Cheers,

    Yvonne

    Hi Ellen,

If Lorianne can’t help you figure it out, you can send it to me directly at yrfarrell@ gmail.com. It’s better to keep it in the system so it doesn’t get lost but I don’t want it to cause stress.

    Hi Ethel,

Thanks for the update! Sounds like you released some latency without attempting to actively bleed the points. Good on you. I love the simplicity of your treatment. It’s very clean and clear. These are very powerful vessels.
